mesclun

Mesclun is actually just a mix of whatever greens you want to have in it. As usual, the French come up with great food terminology. Mesclun is much cooler sounding than small salad mix. Most mesclun mixes are a large percentage of mini lettuces and a smaller percentage of other greens like arugula, spinach, mustard, Asian greens like tatsoi or mizuna, and herbs.

We love arugula and red mustard in our mix!

Storage

As always, fresh produce is most delicious and nutritious when consumed as close to the harvest date as possible.

Our bagged mesclun will keep in its own bag easily for a week, often two!

Culinary Info

– can be enjoyed in: We use it mostly for, you guessed it, salad. In fact, because of the fun mix of greens, it can stand alond with a very simple dressing, but we also use it on sandwiches, tacos, under fried eggs, etc.

Tips for preparing:

Best to wash in a salad spinner, rinsing several times before spinning dry. You don’t have a salad spinner yet? Immerse in cold, lightly salted water, drain, repeat, place in thin cotton dishtowel, go outside and swing around to release all the water – it’s fun!
