This month brings the more hurried pace of seeding petunias and impatiens and lots of peppers and tomatoes. The onions are up and looking oh so lovely!
The tomatoes are growing and the greenhouses are filling up. The hanging baskets are being planted and new basil seeded. We have not opened Lunenburg yet, but stay tuned. I know many of you like to stop in with your containers for planting, and we love that! There are some new varieties of petunias, Echinacea, Coreopsis, succulents, All American Awards Selections, Proven winners and so much more!
Market apps are in and it looks like you will see us at the regular haunts. There will be changes to the City Hall location, so stay tuned. Meanwhile,you can still find us all winter at the Armory in Somerville, Saturdays, 9:30-2 and Sundays at 318 Harvard St, Arcade Bldg, Brookline 12-5 (except 12/22/13). You’ll be able to get amazing carrots, potatoes, turnips, squash and greens. Bonus – Kate will have her meats and eggs at both markets!
Wildlife
The bobcat have dominated our week by laying around our pasture for 2 hours one day and then popping up in another field the next day. I had one Statie stop and say he’s been watching them in various fields on our farm for the past week. They are extremely handsome animals and we are so delighted to have them here. It was my first time seeing one (TWO!) on my own property, having previously only seen them only out of town. I must qualify that by saying Glenn has seen them many times, as well as our neighbors. I spoke with an “Environmental Policeman” who stopped while I was out photographing and he said he’d never actually seen one (he seemed pretty excited. . We hope they prosper and feel safe here. Living with wildlife and providing great habitat, is another part of your food being “conscientiously grown”.

The price will hold at the old price of $350 for a small box and $500 for a large box until April 1st. As of April 1 the price will increase to $375 for a small box and $535 for a large box. As much as we would like to hold the price forever, our costs have gone up across the board: health care, gas, soil, boxes, seed, labor (now $11.20/hour), etc. We will hold the price for our early subscribers but will have to raise our prices to reflect costs of doing business today.
