We’ve been busy planting…

The onions and tomatoes are up…in fact, the first round of tomatoes has been transplanted; AND they will be transplanted into the ground in a few weeks!  He has spent the week seeding tomatoes and it is slow going. Peppers next! As a reminder, we’ve scaled back, though, not on our amazing veggies and herb transplants, but on the flowers. It is too much for us, as we grow older, to take care of two entire greenhouse operations (New Braintree and Lunenburg). Everyone  else is into other things – which is good! Our last hope was our 15 year old Faith who has announced she’d like to go to a military academy and be a field surgeon…so she won’t be running Lunenburg for us, LOL.

We will have our amazing tomato transplants as well as all the other vegetable, herb plants, Mother Geraniums and other bedding plants available as they come into season at New Braintree, Boston Public Market, Worcester Public Market  and farmers’ markets.

Wildlife

It’s all about the birds baby!
The hawks all continue to be busy picking off doves, perching above our bird feeders (yes, they are birds who are feeding right?), scanning the fields for rodents. The Barred Owls have been sitting not only at the edges of our fields, but IN our yard – awesome! And the Red Tail Hawk couple  is ever present and keeping the Blue Jays on their toes. Overall,  it’s pretty cool; these predators are our friends, hunting rodents, mustelids, and cleaning up the roadkill. We love our rabbits, but enough’s enough…that’s nature’s balance. This is a boon to the orchards and helps the battle we have later in the season with creatures eating our seeds and roots.
